Devastated colleagues of a much-loved tax specialist who died after a battle with lung cancer are putting their best feet forward in her memory.
Staff at the North Wales and Cheshire-based accountancy firm, Coxeys will be pounding the pavements in honour of Morag Browning, who worked for the company for almost 40 years and was one of its “respected” directors.
The mother-of-one from Marchwiel, Wrexham passed away in January aged just 69.
Now Morag’s work family are gearing up to take part in the Midnight Walk to raise money for Nightingale House Hospice who helped support her and her loved ones during her final days.
Senior tax assistant Laura Watkins, from the firm’s Wrexham branch, said: “Morag was an advisor for Coxeys for almost 40 years and was quite an integral part of the company.
“I worked with her for 20 years and some of my colleagues, a little bit longer, so we’ve known her most of our working careers because she was here when we all started.
“She was such an important part of the business and had her own client base and her own great sense of humour. Her clients have all been quite shocked and saddened by her passing.
“It’s left a big gap, not just work wise but character wise, she would do anything for anybody and was always willing to help out or give advice. She knew so much about a lot of things.”
Laura added: “Morag was a very special lady. We were absolutely devastated when she passed away because she’d always been here for all of us, supporting our careers.
“She’s just irreplaceable really.”
Morag was married to Peter for 45 years and together they had one son, Don. She enjoyed gardening and travelling around Europe with her husband and also had a passion for cooking.
Her colleagues at Coxeys – which has offices in Wrexham, Saltney and Chester – said she was always happy to get involved in their various fundraising events “no matter how silly they all got.”
That’s why they decided to take part in the Midnight Walk in aid of Nightingale House – one of the charities her family chose to donate to after her funeral.
Joanne Evans, one of the directors at Coxeys, described Morag as: “One of the kindest ladies I have ever met.”
Senior accounts practitioner, Helen Mort added: “We were all deeply saddened at the news of Morag’s passing.
“I worked with Morag for 18 years and knew she was always there should I have a problem to talk to.
“She always had a story to tell. We all miss Morag and often share memories together.
“We all treasure Morag’s memory, she was valued beyond words and is missed beyond measure.”
The Midnight Walk takes place on June 24 and a Just Giving page set up by Morag’s colleagues at Coxeys.
It says: “Morag would go out of her way to help us, whether it was gardening or cooking advice or upholstering our chairs.
“In her final months, Nightingale House was a huge support to her and her family as they fought the cancer which came as a huge shock to us all.
“Nightingale House was one of the charities which Morag supported regularly and money was given in her memory at the Celebration of her Life.”
