A couple struggling with disability who have waited 18 years to move have had their lives transformed by the dream home they now live in on a purpose-built new estate in Flintshire.

Sidney Card and Donna Bellis have just moved into the new Ash Lane site in the heart of Mancot village and they couldn’t be happier.

The eight-home £950,000 development, built by award-winning Anwyl Construction for leading social housing provider Wales & West Housing, was completed on time earlier this summer and already all the properties have been filled.

They include six two-bedroomed houses, one three-bedroom property and a two bedroom wheelchair-friendly bungalow, all close to local amenities in the Deeside village.

Sidney Card said: “We were in an old property on the Hawarden estate and we have been looking to move for 18 years because it was very difficult for us to manage there.

“We’re really so pleased with this and we couldn’t do any better. It’s ideal and we’re delighted with it.”

His partner, Donna, added: “This really is luxury for me.”

All the properties feature enhanced insulation, energy efficient boilers and heating systems while the bungalow has fully automated and controlled access along with adapted wet-room and kitchen facilities.

Anwyl Construction Project Manager Charlie Shaw said: “The development is very handily placed in the village but that did mean it was a very tight site to work on and the weather was dreadful, very wet, when we started but we’ve completed it on time and within budget.

“It’s a really nice scheme on the site of the old Mancot Clinic and it fits into the area very well.”

Flintshire County Council Leader, Councillor Aaron Shotton, and Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Helen Brown also visited the site and were impressed with what they saw.

Councillor Brown said: “Flintshire County Council is delighted to support this development of affordable housing which will improve the lives of our residents for years to come.”

Anne Hinchey, Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing, said: “We’re delighted to have worked in partnership with Flintshire County Council and Anwyl Construction to provide much needed homes in Mancot, as shown with Mr Card and Miss Bellis. We wish them many happy years in their new home.”
