Legal eagles at a fast-growing North Wales law firm have scooped a major national business award.

The team at Swayne Johnson, which is based in Denbigh and has six offices across North Wales and Cheshire, won Business of the Year at the annual f2n Business Awards and earned a glowing accolade from former British Olympic skiing star Chemmy Allcott.

The company, which was founded in 1853 but traces its roots back to the beginning of the 19th century, has more than doubled its turnover in the past ten years and gone from two offices to a chain of six stretching across North Wales from Tattenhall, in Cheshire, and covering Ruthin, St Asaph, Denbigh, Llandudno and Bangor.

Awards Judge and four-time Winter Olympian Chemmy Allcott presented the award to Swayne Johnson at a glittering ceremony at the St George’s Hotel, in Llandudno.

BBC Ski Sunday presenter and Eurosport commentator Chemmy said: “The quality of nominations far exceeded anything I could have imagined. I feel I know all about you and your business. I can relate to many of your stories – you are truly at the top of your game.”

Swayne Johnson Managing Director Sarah Noton said: “We are thrilled to have received this major award – it’s a tribute to the quality of the team here and to the fantastic service they provide for our clients which is key to how we have grown.

“We are a long-established firm but we are ambitious and recognise that it is vital to develop our services to benefit our clients who come from all over the country.

“We employ local people and train and develop them and it is the quality of our staff who day in and day out demonstrate excellent client care and specialist expert knowledge in all that we do and that has driven our success.

“It is important to be able to offer a fully bilingual service, especially here in North Wales, and to offer real expertise as well so that clients don’t need to look to firms from outside the area for the legal skills they need.

“We cover just about every aspect of the law and we have experts in most fields across the group which is very important in these increasingly complex times.

“We are also very involved with the communities where we operate and support many local organisations and charities from local sports clubs to charities such as Headway which helps the victims of head injury and their families.”

Swayne Johnson have a total of 52 staff including 8 Directors and 28 lawyers who all work within specialist teams and supporting roles.

That number is up from 36 since 2008, covering Conveyancing, Wills, Trusts and Estates, Civil Litigation and Disputes, Company and Commercial Law, Family, Agricultural Law, Charity and Ecclesiastical Law.

Wales has just three Court of Protection Panel Deputies, qualified to look after people’s affairs if there is no one else able to do so, and two of them are from Swayne Johnson, Sarah Noton and Yvonne Hughes.

Nina Sardar, f2n Business Network founder, said: “This gala event just keeps growing and attracts entries from businesses from across the United Kingdom.

“Just being a Finalist in the f2n Business Awards was an incredible achievement and Chemmy Allcott was so impressed with Swayne Johnson’s business story.

“They were very well-deserved winners and that’s down to the strength of their nomination.”
