A heart-stopping daredevil spectacle by five-time world cycle trials champion Jack Carthy will be among the star attractions at Denbigh Show on August 29.

He will be joined by motorcycle ace, Dan Clark, who has been riding high in the top echelons of the motorbiking circuit for 15 years and holds a Trial Des Nations gold medal for Britain.

Together the pair from the Xtreme Stunt Team whose breath-taking two wheeled aerobatics pull in bumper crowds all around the globe.

The action-packed day long programme also features a gleaming classic cars exhibition, horse riding competitions, ferret racing, Punch and Judy and the chance to get hands on with live creepy crawlies.

Festival goers can delve into local history books or enjoy a picnic with teddy bears.

In addition the annual Denbigh Flower Show and associated arts and crafts displays will be staged throughout the day, helping to round off summer 2015 with a colourful pageant for all ages.

Sporting superstar and stunt rider Jack Carthy has clinched the world cycle trials championship five times and is also a three times holder of the European cycle trials title.

When not competing for medals and trophies he has built up an army of fans by display riding with Dan and the Xtreme Stunt Team.

Past exhibitions have seen them jumping on their bikes over a formula one racing car, winding around seemingly impossible to beat obstacle courses, completing high-flying leaps over people and machines, and navigating their way through a barrage of kettle drums.

Dan promises: “There will be some head-turning stunts, but also a few laughs. It’s a family event, so we throw a little bit of comedy into the mix as well. We’ve got commentary throughout, so the crowd will know exactly what is happening during each different stunt.”

Denbigh Show organiser Steve Williams said the Xtreme Stunt Team, originally from Yorkshire, boast one of the most unique and exciting combined bike and motorbike displays on the planet and he can’t wait for them to bring their new 2015 Xtreme show to Denbigh.

The show will be held on Lon Felin field, off Ystrad Road, on the outskirts of the town and a free bus shuttle ride will be laid on from 12.30-6pm to transport visitors between the show ground and town centre.

One of the most mind-boggling events of the day is sure to be The Creepy Crawlie Show, on site from 12 noon till 4pm. This highly trained team of animal experts offer curious youngsters and adults the chance to see and hold an array of beautifully ugly creatures including hissing cockroaches, snakes, lizards, giant snails, stick insects, spiders and millipedes.

Lisa Crowton, whose husband Craig, leads the team, said: “Children are always keen to see and handle our animals, but adults are equally interested. We are constantly inundated with questions about each of the creatures on display, so we have to know everything there is to know about each of the animals.”

The Creepy Crawlies Show, based in Chester, has been going for more than 10 years and is in big demand at festivals, education fairs, schools, parties, hotels, holiday camps and major UK events.

“We’ve even appeared at a christening,” said Lisa. “We adapt our exhibitions to suit different audiences and because of the nature of what we do, each exhibition is truly unique. No animal, or person ever reacts the same way as another, so there’s always something new to see.

“All the animals are cared for in the best possible conditions and the handling sessions well supervised.”

On a more sedate level, this year’s Denbigh Show also offers a chance to leaf through the history books via Denbigh Community Archive’s exhibition of old photographs, papers and memorabilia.

Denbigh Town Clerk, Medwyn Jones, said: “A history tent has been held at Denbigh Show in the past and it is always very popular. This year I think it will be more so than ever, as there is a growing trend of people wanting to discover more about their roots and the historic records of Denbighshire. Often people pop into the tent intending to stay a couple of minutes and end up being there half an hour or more. They become so fascinated, especially by our growing archive of photographs. We also get people bringing along items to show our historians at the event.”

The show will also feature an exhibition by the Denbigh-based radio museum, Wireless in Wales, which will be displaying items from its collection of historic radio equipment.

Denbigh Rotary Club is encouraging children to enter a junior roll a barrel competition, there will be a treasure trail, an open air bug hunt and a teddy bears’ picnic held on straw bales.

Throughout the day there will be live music and refreshments available in a Food Hall marquee packed with an array of tasty hot and cold snacks and local produce.
