A care organisation was transformed into a winter wonderland for its popular annual Christmas fair.

The event at Pendine Park in Wrexham was an opportunity for residents, their families and staff to buy some last minute Christmas presents.

There was live music from local Summerhill guitar vocalist Max Chard and craft stalls selling jewellery and other gifts as well as plenty of mince pies and other Yule Tide treats – including a visit from the main man, Santa Claus.

Retired security guard Mike Lewis, who worked for the Duke of Westminster, enjoyed the party along with his wife, Margaret Lewis, who has vascular dementia and has been a resident of Pendine Park for the past three years.

Mike, of Rhos, said: “We, our daughter Beverley and I, have enjoyed a wonderful day with Margaret. It’s lovely seeing so many happy faces and residents and relatives having a good time.

Daughter Beverley Aston, of Johnstown, who works as child support worker, added: “It’s been a lovely party and afternoon. Mum is happy here and so well looked after.

“It’s been fantastic seeing so many happy faces and the home has been filled with real warm festive feel.

“There is always something going on through a variety of different organised activities, the staff work so hard.”

Freda May, 95, originally of Rhos but now a resident of Cae Bryn Care Home, enjoyed the party along with her daughter Llinos.

Freda managed to throw some dance shapes as the singer belted out some Christmas songs despite being in her wheelchair.

She said: “I love Christmas. It’s been really good having a party and having some of my family here. I get a visit every day from someone. It’s a lovely place to live.”

Llinos added: “Mum has a son, two daughters, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. We all live locally so there’s never a day that goes by without she gets a visit from someone.

“She loves living in Cae Bryn as there is always something going on which she can join in with if she wants. Today has been amazing, there’s a real Christmas spirit and feel about the party and its lovely seeing everyone having such a good time.”

Marilyn Roberts, 77, who is living with dementia, has been a resident of Highfield House for the past two years.

She enjoyed the party along with her daughter, Nerys Edwards, of Wrexham and son Adrian Roberts, also of Wrexham, who works as a health care organisation manager.

Nerys said: “It’s been a great party and a chance to have some quality time with mum. Pendine Park has been fantastic and she couldn’t be happier. It’s amazing there is always something going on.”

Adrian added: “There is always a full programme of activities which mum can join in if she wants or is able to. It’s just lovely to have events such as this Christmas party where we, as relatives, can join in. It’s been a wonderful day.”

Senior enrichment activities coordinator Christine Lewis She said: “It’s been a cracking day. We have had live music, Christmas craft stalls and a raffle which will benefit residents.

“It’s a lovely time of year and so nice to see so many relatives here enjoying a party alongside residents. There has certainly been plenty of Christmas spirit and the party follows on nicely from our Carols by Candlelight service we held the night before.”
