Europe’s biggest trailer maker has appointed a new distributor in South Wales.

Mason Bros will look after sales for Ifor Williams Trailers along the M4 corridor from the Severn Bridge to Cross Hands in the west.

They will operate from their new premises on the Brynmenyn Industrial Estate in Bridgend and will sell the company’s whole range of trailers.

Mason Bros are the latest distributor to join a worldwide network that stretches across the UK, mainland Europe and as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.

The company, which has its headquarters in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, was founded by the late Wilfred Mason in 1952 and is now run by second and third generation members of the family.

According to director Hywel Mason, the expanding company now employs a total of 26 people.

Mr Mason said: “My brother, Alun, and I took over the business in 1986 and we’ve had a lifetime in the construction industry, both in agricultural construction and civil engineering, and since 1992 we’ve been a construction equipment dealer based in Narberth.

“The business has grown over the past two years particularly and it has given us the confidence to expand into Bridgend.

“One of the reasons for our success is our customer service. Anybody can sell one machine, but if you’re going to continue to sell to the same customer you have to look after them, and our strength is in backup.

“We’re delighted to be appointed as a distributor for Ifor Williams Trailers. It’s a very strong brand name and what is even more pleasing is the fact that their trailers are manufactured in Wales.

“We’re proud of being chosen after a stringent process and Mason Bros came out on top at the end of it. We must have had some fairly good competition I’m sure.

“The strength of the brand is based on the quality of the product. It’s a fantastic product and it’s a household name, and we hope we can support that in South Wales. We’ll be supplying everything that Ifor Williams produces.

“Our patch is basically the M4 corridor from the Severn Bridge down to Cross Hands near Carmarthen, including the Vale of Glamorgan.”

Peter Nesbitt, the business development manager at Ifor Williams Trailers, was delighted with their choice.

He said: “We had a very thorough selection process and many good potential candidates had gone forward and presented themselves to become our distributors in this area of South Wales.

“Mason Bros are a very successful company with a very professional approach to all that they do.

“They’re well-known in South Wales for the quality of their customer service so in that regard it’s been an easy decision because they’ve given us so much confidence that they will look after our customers exceptionally well.

“They’ve recently opened new premises near Bridgend which is within five minutes of the M4. It is a large facility where they will be able to carry a large stock of trailers and from where they will be able to offer trailer servicing and customer back up.

“It’s a really exciting partnership for everybody concerned and a great opportunity for Mason Bros to continue to grow.

“What I also pick up with them is their strong family values, and in that regard they have the same DNA as Ifor Williams Trailers, and it’s brilliant that it’s two Welsh companies working together to mutual advantage.”
