Sales of summer clothes are hotting up at a shopping centre as the temperature in Wrexham continues to soar.

Shoppers are flocking to Eagles Meadow to snap up summer wear to make the most of the scorching weather.

Debenhams at the centre has been particularly busy, especially with women on the lookout for summer dresses.

Andy Smethurst, the deputy manager at Debenhams at Eagles Meadow, said: “We have been exceptionally busy and sales are up in all departments. Swimwear, summer dresses, shorts and T-shirts in particular have been in high demand. It’s been excellent.

“Even cosmetics, which are not a product you’d normally associate with summer sales, are up. It really has been good for trade.”

According to George Andrews, a sales assistant at Trespass, at Eagles Meadow, business has been good despite much of the store’s products being designed for extreme weather.

He said: “We have been very busy over the last few weeks as camping and the festival season gets underway.

“The footfall through Eagles Meadow seems to have been up with lots of people dressed in shorts and summer clothes.”

Eagles Meadow ODEON manager, Kenny Kempster, says the cinema has also been busy.

He said: “I think some people are choosing to spend time in a cool cinema and watching a good film as a way to escape the heat.

“We have the Minnions film and Jurassic World showing at the moment which are both attracting big audiences. I expect numbers to increase substantially once the schools break up for summer.

“And we have the latest Terminator film hitting the screens shortly which I expect to be another busy time.”

Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre manager, Kevin Critchley, says that the scorching weather has sent footfall soaring.

He said: “It is noticeable that people find the shadier areas of the centre and prefer shops with the best air conditioning.

“The atmosphere is certainly positive and everyone seems to have a smile on their face. The store managers I have spoken to are reporting good sales particularly when it comes to summer clothing and there are lots of special sale offers throughout the centre which mean that a good walk around can save our customers money.”
