A dramatic game finished in gathering darkness as Llanberis cornered Llandudno Junction 4-0 in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Reserve League Cup Final at Llanfair PG.

Three of Llanberis’s second-half goals in the evening game came from corners after the goalless first-half was marred by a nasty-looking injury to a Junction player who fell awkwardly in a tackle.

An ambulance was called but the match was held up for 50 minutes before it arrived and the teams had just a five minute half-time break before the game restarted in an effort to beat the darkness.

Junction had had slightly the better of the first half but the Dafarns settled better in the second and took the lead from a corner on 55 minutes as Ifan Mansoor scored from close range.

They doubled their lead ten minutes later, again from a corner, with Nidian Huws rising at the far post to head home and they sealed the win after 78 minutes when a neat move down the right ended with Huw Barwick beating the keeper from 18 yards.

And Junction’s night went from bad to worse with an own goal, again from a corner, sealing Llanberis’s win five minutes from time.

Llanberis secretary Carwyn Jones said afterwards: “I thought the score flattered us and I told Llandudno’s manager that as well but we’re delighted to have won and for the season to end on a high.

“We were also pleased to hear that their injured player has made a full recovery.”

The presentation of the trophy was made by Rob Jones, of Lock Stock Self Storage, and he said: “Congratulations to Llanberis who deserved their win in a game that was always much tighter than the scot reline suggests.

“They scored at the right time and that meant Junction were always struggling to get on terms and the third goal really killed them off.”
