Flintshire-based Anwyl Homes has employed two young trainee assistant site managers from Coleg Cambria.
18-year-old Jacob Hird from Mold and 17-year-old Jay Williams from Cefn Mawr in Wrexham have joined the fast growing business to learn everything there is to know about the day-to-day construction of quality new build homes, with a view to becoming fully-fledged assistant site managers with Anwyl when they successfully complete their studies.
Over the next couple of years, the youngsters will shadow Anwyl’s existing site managers gaining valuable practical experience into the daily operations on a busy building site. Working closely with the experts, they will have insight into all aspects of the construction process and learn first hand what’s involved in delivering high quality homes safely, on time and within budget.
The Anwyl Group already has a strong reputation for fostering young talent. It’s construction division, Anwyl Construction, has provided many apprenticeships over the years and is well known for supporting young people looking to get into the industry.
Construction director at Anwyl Homes, Iain Murray, explains: “As a growing business with ambitious aspirations for expansion, it is important that we do what we can to develop the next generation and continue to encourage young people into the industry.
“Both Jay and Jacob impressed us at interview, demonstrating the aptitude and enthusiasm needed to succeed, so we decided to take them on and offer additional experience for them on site while allowing them to continue with their studies in college for one day each week.”
Jay said: “I’m currently working with the team at Parc Celyn in Abermorddu and have already learned so much in the few short weeks that I’ve been on site. It’s an exciting time to join the business and I’m looking forward to furthering my career with Anwyl over the years to come.”
Jacob added: “Joining Anwyl is a great opportunity for us that allows us to combine our important college studies with practical experience on site, and will provide an invaluable way to learn about the industry from the inside out.”
